Right before the Christmas holiday, the employees of The Douglas Company donated a heaping 1,860 pounds of non-perishable food and cleaning items to The Family House of Toledo. The Douglas Company initiated a food drive challenge amongst the departments for the campaign, “It has been to get rather competitive around here, and the challenge fit our group well,” said Andrew Sokol, Estimator at The Douglas Company.
The Family House is truly a unique homeless shelter because the whole family can stay together. The average age of a homeless child is four, and right now, 65 kids live within these walls at Family House, the second-largest family homeless shelter in Ohio. “We are feeding approximately 131 people three times a day, so you can imagine how much food we go through.” said Renee Palacios, Executive Director of Family House.” “This is by far the largest food donation we have received in the seven years I have been working with The Family House. This donation will help us replenish our shelves and will help so many families in our community.”
“Holidays remind us all about the power of giving. There are families in our community that continue to need help 365 days a year, and Family House is such an amazing resource for those services,” said Gayle Ashbridge, Director of People Development at The Douglas Company. “We cannot thank associates enough for their donations and for proactively stepping forward to help those in need.”
